"Welcome to Sydney, and for anyone returning from time away: Welcome Home."
As the flight attendant's voice resonated through the cabin, I realised that this time, unlike my last few sojourns to Sydney, the latter welcome was for me.
My new life is centred around a small room that I share with Matt in a huge mansion that I share with 5 other magical beings. Yogis, Teachers, Witches, Rappers, Faeries, Activists, Musicians, Druids, Artisans, Friends; a Family. We all live as a community in our giant home, that empty of our hippie decor would seem quite incongruent with the personalities of the people in the house. The spa, sauna, jacuzzi, pool and greenhouse all seem a bit over the top, but it works to make a beautiful and magical home even more amazing. The human inhabitants of this house happily share it with 3 Rabbits, a few special house spirits, many houseplants, and one or two happy little mice who we are currently trying to encourage to leave us (and the rabbit's hay) alone.
Surrounding the house is the Wetlands. 14 hectares of parkland, waterways and forests filled with birds, hopping mice, plants, and I'm sure many creatures I have yet to discover. This Wetlands is literally just outside our front door. As in, closer than to front door than our own mailbox. I'm excited to spend more time here, both as an explorer, a herbalist, a Druid and a Witch.
Just to make the location even more impressive, 3 blocks away is the local beach. It is a beautiful sand beach, perfect for collecting shells when the tides are right. The majority of the people living in the nearby suburbs are Mediterranean (mainly Greek, Turkish, Lebanese and Croatian), and Vietnamese. This makes for many amazing stores, restaurants, and my favorite, ethic grocery stores. I am also fascinated by the Orthodox book and statue stores that are filled with beautiful iconography of the Saints.
All in all, this little area that the next year of my life will centre around, looks to be exciting and magical. Hopefully I can share my adventures both in the area and further afield on here, amongst some poetry, recipes, philosophical banter and other things. I have never kept a blog before. I have never even kept a diary very well, but I figure I have many people who I love far away from me, and I love to share, so I'll do my best to keep updating this.
